How spinal decompression works

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment that gently stretches the spine to relieve pressure on spinal discs and nerves. By creating negative pressure inside the disc, decompression can help retract bulging or herniated disc material and draw in oxygen, water, and nutrients that support healing.

1. Evaluation & imaging review

Your chiropractor reviews your history, symptoms, and any X-rays or MRI results to confirm whether decompression is the right fit for your condition.

2. Comfortable treatment sessions

You lie fully clothed on the decompression table while computer-guided traction gently stretches the spine. Most patients describe a mild, relaxing stretching sensation — many even fall asleep.

3. A personalized plan

The number of sessions depends on your condition, symptoms, and goals. Your chiropractor recommends a plan after your evaluation and adjusts it as you progress.

Safe, painless — and genuinely relaxing

IDD Therapy® is non-surgical, non-invasive, and typically does not involve pain medications. Treatment is not only safe and painless — most patients find it comfortable and relaxing. There's no downtime, so you can return to your day right after each session.

Decompression may also be considered for appropriately selected patients with spinal stenosis, depending on the location and cause of their symptoms. Your evaluation determines candidacy.
